Pvt. Ernest W. Massey Writes Mother from Somewhere in Pacific
Mrs. C. L. Massey, 717 N. Ky. St., has received the following letter in verse, from her son, Pvt. Earnest W. Massey, who has been overseas since last June, 1943. He is now in New Guinea. He was in Camp Robert when his father was killed by a live wire last Dec. 13th, at the T. P. & L. power house just north of the city.
The poem follows:
Dear Mother,
Far beyond the plains of Texas
Even beyond the ocean blue,
Your soldier son sits thinking
Of his loved ones-especially you.
Yes, many miles do lie between us
Because this war has made us part,
But what can separate us in spirit
As long as God is in our hearts?
By Trust in Him we'll see it through
For what we ask in His name He'll do.
So be not worried or burdened with care,
But just mention my name to God in prayer.
And then someday when He thinks it beast
I'll be sailing home with all the rest,
And let;s hope and pray that there'll be no other
To take me away from you, dear Mother.
Love, Wayne
