FOUR-YEAR-OLD CHILD FATALLY BURNED IN YARD OF HOME NEAR PARKER ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Ruby Gene Lewis, 3 years, 8 months and 17 days old, was fatally burned while playing in the back yard of the home of the child’s mother, Mrs. Cordia Lewis near Parker, ten miles south of McKinney, about 4 p. m. Saturday. Ruby Gene was born May 27, 1917.
The mother had been burning some trash in the back yard of the home and left the yard, thinking the fire had gone out. She was preparing to go to a store nearby to make some purchases when cries of the child attracted her attention.
The child ran screaming in its agony to its mother with the fatal flames leaping above its head as the clothes were being burned from the body. All clothing was burned from its body and the flesh was burned almost to a crisp, according to a report received here.
The child’s father was Charles Lewis who died at Parker about two years ago. Besides the mother two brothers and two sisters are left to mourn its loss.
Funeral services were held at the graveside in Parker cemetery at 4:30 p. m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. A. H. Snider of McKinney.
There was a large crowd of people gathered at the cemetery to attend the funeral services and comfort the mother and other relatives in the tragic death of the daughter and brother and sister.
Much sympathy was expressed to the bereaved ones.
