Lair Reunion
DESCENDANTS LATE DR. LAIR HOLD REUNION
MET AT HOME HIS ONLY LIVING CHILD, MRS. O. SLAUGHTER NEAR ANNA
McKinney Courier-Gazette, September 3, 1936, by Ethel Bridgefarmer
The first Lair-Parris reunion was held Sunday, August 23, at the country home of Mrs. O. Slaughter or “Aunt Rye” as she is lovingly called. Mrs. Slaughter is able to get around only in a wheel chair and is eighty-three-years-old, and these two combined reasons caused these relatives to meet with her. She is the only living child of the late Dr. W. D. Lair.
The large trees in the yard furnished shade for the crowd of relatives and in-laws, who gathered with their dinners for the reunion. Tables were spread under the trees with lots of good things and lots of iced tea and ice water. The men brought “Aunt Rye” out in her chair, and she asked divine blessing before the feast. After dinner, the crowd voted to have a reunion again next year but a little earlier in the year.
Those enjoying the day were Mrs. O. Slaughter, her daughter, Miss Helen Slaughter of Dallas, her son E. O. Slaughter and wife and children, Cotia, Buddy, Betty Jo, John O., Emily, Kincaid and Sarah; her daughter, Mrs. M. C. Powell, and husband, and their children, Lottie, Earl, Jessie, Anna Lou, M. C. Jr., and Bill; G. P. Collins of Anna; Mrs. Tom Judd of Chambersville, a granddaughter of T. C. Lair; Mrs. Marietta Lair, widow of J. B. Lair, and her children, John, Ed and Miss Neva, all at home; and O. O. Lair and wife; Dee Lair, wife and son, Rawleigh Ray; Ralph Lair, wife and daughters, Misses Lillian and Peggy; L. L. Lair, wife and son, Tom; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Strother and daughters, Misses Oleta and Helen, all of Anna; Miss Hazel Lair of Melissa, a granddaughter of T. S. Lair; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Anderson, the latter of whom is a great-granddaughter of Dr. W. D. Lair, a granddaughter of Mrs. Theodosis Nipp, and a daughter of Mrs. Lizzie Lindsey and husband; Miss Irene Anderson, S. H. Parris, daughter, Mrs. Ethel Bridgefarmer and the latter’s daughter, Miss Elizabeth Anderson (the late Mrs. S. H. Parris and Mrs. Thad Parris sisters and were granddaughters of Dr. Lair) Thad Parris, wife and children: Mrs. J. B. McKinney, Mr. and Mrs. Rush Pitts, Grady Parris, all of Melissa; and C. R. Parris and wife and sons, Allwyn, Loy, Baten and Randall and Mr. and Mrs. Baten Parris and children, Tommy, Sue Evelyn, Neil and Richard all of Dallas; Mrs. T. A. Parris, who is a grand-niece of Dr. Lair and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Kendall of McKinney; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Riddle and daughters Christine and Margaret of Altus, Oklahoma.
