Settling on East Fork Creek, Elisha Chambers, his wife and children raised livestock and vegetables, mainly corn and sweet potatoes, on 640 acres. Elisha and his wife had six children when they came to Texas in 1847 and in 1852, they buried a baby boy, the tenth of thirteen children born to the couple. The present-day owner Miss Bernice Chandler, is the great-granddaughter of the founder and produces cattle, grass and grains of 277 of the original homestead acres.
