Samuel Jefferson McKinney was born in Montgomery County, Arkansas in 1837, the son of William McKinney and Alia Wilkerson. He came to Blue Ridge in 1861 and was married to Virginia Griffith, who was born in Tennessee in 1846, the daughter of John Fletcher Griffith and Edith Elvira Morrill. Samuel died in 1904 and she in 1930. Both are buried in Blue Ridge Cemetery.
Their children were: Albert Clarence who died in infancy; James Jefferson who married Missouri Jane Cantrell; Elvira who married A. K. Johnson; Leannah Helen who married James Pinckney Dotson; Albert who died in infancy; Emma who married Lon Cox, and married a second time to Oliver Loher; Charles Alvin who married Beaula Ford; Birdie married Arthur Baird; Edgar Angus married Georgia Cook; and Virginia married William Burns.
