A building was erected for the Wilson Creek School in 1871, to be used for both church and school purposes. The building was located about three miles north of present-day Allen and four miles south of McKinney. It was twenty feet by thirty feet with a homemade roof of pine bark shingles. The building had plank seats with plank backs, and there were no desks. Students had to put their books on the seats beside them. There was an old-style box stove for heat. E. W. Kirkpatrick of McKinney was the first teacher. He later became a well- known horticulturist throughout Texas. The students took their writing lessons on the plank fixed to the wall. The school shared the building with the Wilson Creek Baptist Church, which was formed in 1852.
When the Houston & Texas Central Railroad came through the area on its way from Allen to McKinney in 1872, it crossed the church/school property. The church disbanded and moved to Allen.
The Wilson Creek Baptist Church and the Faulkner Prairie Baptist Church eventually combined to form the First Baptist Church of Allen.
There was a Wilson School in Collin County near Princeton. Sometimes the information for that Wilson School and the Wilson Creek School near Allen get mixed up.
