W. S. Smith Passes Away Sunday
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the First Baptist Church for William Seymour Smith, 82, prominent life insurance man of McKinney, who passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Walter Strother, of Anna Sunday.
Dr. Charles Myers and Rev. Kenneth Cantrell of Anna, conducted the services. Burial was in Pecan Grove Cemetery.
Deceased had been a teacher of the Men's Bible Class of the First Baptist Church for a quarter of a century. He was a devout Christian and a beloved citizen. He served as Red Cross chairman in Collin County many years, and aided in other charitable undertakings.
He was well known throughout Collin County having served a County Superintendent of Schools for several terms.
He was born July 1, 1870 in Kentucky and was a son of the late J. A. and Susan Thomas Smith. He came to Collin County sixty-one years ago.
Surviving are two sisters, Miss Mary Smith and Mrs. Walter Strother, both of Anna; a half-brother, S. J. Smith of Fort Worth and several nieces and nephews.
In 1896 he married the former Miss Mattie Gainey, who died in November 1952.
