In 1883 when Anna became a town, the residents established the first school in the home of James H. “Uncle Jimmie” Strother. A second school was started in the residence of a Mr. Carter, but little information was found on this school.
In 1884 an acre of land was donated by W. G. Strother and his wife M. J. for a school. It was located in the northwest corner of the Grandison Stark survey, which would be on the south side of present-day FM 455..
A small school was built and later two rooms were added. School was taught at Strother School until 1910 when a new concrete building was erected. This school is listed as one of three Anna schools in 1901.
Principals at Strother School before 1910 were Moore, Newman, Robinson, Wilson, Lynser, Jones, Creswell, Echols, Tucker, Smith, Wolford, and Roper. The tenure of the principal was brief. Teachers up to 1910 were May Lisenby, Mona Slaughter, May Greer, Allie Wysong, Annie Sherley, Etta Buck, Blanch Hays, Mrs. Dowling King, May Brown, Grace Burke, Annie Blassingame, Mrs. Smith, W. G. Cundiff, Mr. Massie, Lottie Pierce, Maude Webb, Ethel Copeland, and Miss Allen. Some other teachers were A.W. Bell, Carl Ketching, G. R. Smith. S.H. COLE, J.R. Guldridge, T.A. Parris, C.J. Moore, J.M. Robinson, Joetta Slaughter, and W.L. Roper.
