Starnes announces re-election bid
Helen Starnes, a life-long native of Collin County, has filed for re-election as county clerk.
Starnes has 25 years of experience in the county clerk's office. For four years, she served as chief deputy county clerk for James Webb. Starnes says she has personally trained most of the 24 people currently working in the county clerk's office.
"I am happy to say that all the projects and ideas I promised during my campaign have become realities," she says.
Starnes cites computerizing the department as a major accomplishment during her stay in office.
in addition to her regular responsibilities as county clerk, Starnes recently assumed the duties previously carried out by the county treasurer's office. The post was abolished by the voters in November.
Starnes says she has been able to manage the treasurer's office with one part-time employee.
The county clerk's office is responsible for filling, indexing and recording all legal documents. Since 1981, the filings in the county clerk's office have increased 88 percent, according to Starnes.
