Established in 1853 on the land owned by Jacob Routh, the school was located on the south bank of Spring Creek two miles south of Plano. The school was in what was called the Routh Community and later the Spring Creek Community. There was also a stagecoach line on the Routh property running from Dallas to McKinney. The school was in a log building on the south west corner of Plano Road and Renner Road. The school had long, thick cottonwood slabs as benches. Miss Mary and Miss Ann Thomas, William Campbell and R.B. Barrow were teachers at the school. The building also served as a church on Sunday as Mr. Routh was a preacher. The book, Plano, Texas: The Early Years, stated the school was discontinued in 1871. Stambaugh’s 1905-1918 list of schools had a Routh School listed. It is not known if this is the Old Spring Creek School or another school.
