Mrs. Violet M. Shields Dies at home Here
Mrs. Violet M. Shields, 69, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at her home, 604 Jefferson Street after several months' illness. She was born in Oklahoma November 22, 1890, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. McCarver. Most of her married life had been spent here. She married Willie Shields July 23, 1909, in McKinney, and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Services were held at 4 p.m. Friday in Turrentine-Jackson Chapel, with burial in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Rafael Shields of Andrews; three daughters, Mrs. H. O. Ellison and Mrs. Hazel Ellison of Dallas, and Mrs. W. P. Pilkilton of Andrews; one brother D. E. McCarver of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Celebrate Golden Wedding

Honoring their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. L. Shields, on their golden wedding anniversary, Mrs. Jennings Horn, Mrs. Cliff Jones, Mrs. Leon Horn, Mrs. J. N. Maloney, Mrs. W. T. Shields entertained with an open house reception at the home, 510 S. Chestnut Street, McKinney, on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1, attended by more than 100 guests.
Greeting the guests at the door was Mrs. Sam Payne. In the receiving line were the five children of the Honorees.
The living room was decorated with arrangements of golden chrysanthemums and in the dining room the table was laid with lace cloth centered with a three-tiered wedding cake, surrounded with gold chrysanthemums and fern. Tall white taper burned in crystal holders. A refreshment course of angel food squares and punch was served.
Presiding at the punch bowl was Miss Bettie Joe Myrick of Dallas, assisted by granddaughters of the honorees, Mrs. N. M. Mott had charge of the guest register.
Gifts presented the honorees on their anniversary were arranged for display by Mrs. W. T. Shields and Mrs. Clark Sexton. Other members of the house party were Mrs. J. D. Horn, Mrs. Roy Williams, Mrs. Jack Dunn. out-of-town guests were Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Wilson, Mrs. W. K. McCaleb, Mrs.. Nellie Shelton, Mr. and Mrs. James Dyer and daughters, Mrs. M. Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. John Brooks and daughters of Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Fields of Windom; Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Jones and son, Denton.
Mr. and Mrs. Shields were married in McKinney Nov. 29, 1896. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mr. Joe McMahan. Mr. Shields was the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Shields, pioneer citizens of Collin County. Mr. and Mrs. Shields have five children, all living and present for the occasion.
