Shields School
¼ mile east of present-day Anna
Anna, Texas
The Shields School, located about ¼ mile from Anna, was built in 1855. It was built of logs and had log benches. There was one window cut out of the side of the logs. A fireplace made of sticks and daubed with mud and clay kept the school warm in the winter. The first teacher was George Portman who taught for about three terms. Miss Nightengale taught two terms. Later the school was made into a home by one of the Shields boys.
