Died Sitting in Chair, Was a long lived Family McKinney Democrat, July 3, 1901
R. T. Seay has returned from Roswell, N. M., where he was summoned by the death of his father, Rev. J. B. Seay, which occurred on the 15th of this month.
His father was born in Virginia and was an old time Methodist exhorter, but was licensed to preach in Alabama in the year 1854, and served the church as long as his health and strength would permit as a faithful local preacher. He came to Texas in 1856.
He had been twice married and leaves six sons, namely: R. T. Seay, McKinney; John in Erath county; Brown at El Paso; Joe at Kent; Jim at Baird and Ed at Roswell, N. M., at whose home he died at the ripe old age of 87.
He was sick about five days, and during the time kept up his old habit of rising early. The morning of his death he had dressed himself and was seated in his chair. He had been dead several minutes when discovered by his son. His family on his mother's side were all long lived. His mother died at the age of 103 seated in a chair just as he was. The youngest member of their family died at the age of 73 years. The only surviving one, a brother lives in Alabama and is 92 years old.
Found among the deceased's possessions is a testament purchased at old Chinnabee camping ground in Alabama in the year 1847. Mr. Seay has the book and prized it very highly.
Jacob B. Seay was born Oct 5, 1815 and died June 15, 1902 at Roswell, N. M. His son John Grant died Apr. 10, 1905 at Clairette, Erath, TX and is buried in the Clairette Cemetery. Ed S. Seay died in N. M. 1849 to 1922. He is buried in the same cemetery his father is in Roswelll.
