Robert L. Sears Died in Ft. Worth Jan 20, 1910/6
Robert L. Sears, aged 75 years, 3 months and 12 days, died at about 7 o'clock last Monday evening, Jan. 17, at the home of his son, W. R. Sears, with whom he has been living during the past year. The deceased had been getting along splendidly in health for one of his advanced years until about a week ago. Consequently his relatives and many old McKinney friends were not prepared to hear of his death. The remains were shipped to McKinney via Interurban express, arriving about 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. They were borne to the Presbyterian church U. S. A., where the funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock by his pastor, Rev. Sterling Park, assisted by Rev. E. B. Fincher. The burial followed in Pecan Grove cemetery.
Robert L. Sears was a native of Kentucky, but came with his parents, when he was only ten years old to Texas. The old Sears family homestead stands at the head of Ross avenue in Dallas. The deceased enlisted in the Confederacy and served throughout the war. At the close of the war, he married Miss Mary Everett who died more than 20 years ago. She was a a sister of Mrs. J. H. Inidley, mother of Mrs. Wallace Hughston, and also of Bob Everett of Hebron, Texas. Three children were the fruits of his first marriage viz: Ex-County Clerk Lonnie A. Sears and Ex-County Treasurer Charles I. Sears, both of McKinney and one daughter, who lived in South Texas. His second marriage was to Miss Victoria Zillhart of Nevada, Texas. She also has been dead several years. Five children were the fruits of his second marriage. John C. Sears, of McKinney, William H. and Frank W. Sears, both of Fort Worth; Mrs. A. Z. Jackson of Henrietta, Texas and Mrs. Will Johnson of Carrollton, Texas. The deceased moved to Collin County more than 30 years ago and settled in the McMinn Chapel community near Nevada. After the death of his second wife he resided in Farmersville for a while and then in McKinney about 12 or 14 years or until February last year when he went to Ft. Worth to live with his son in that city. The deceased was a life-long member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. His death is mourned by many relatives and old friends in this county.
His sons, L. A. and John C. Sears went to Fort Worth Monday and accompanied the remains of their father back up to McKinney for interment. These papers deeply sympathize with the many relatives of this aged father in his passing away.
