John Harvey Sandidge
Jon Harvey Sandidge was born December 112, 1869 in Tennessee. He was the oldest of three boys. Will Sandidge lived in McKinney for many. Charlie left Collin County and purchased a large acreage at Hail Center and later oil was discovered in the area and his land had producing wells. He married Mary Russell, a relative of Charlie and George Russell of McKinney. The three brother were reared by their grandmother, Mary Sandidge Dobbs. Her son, Dr. Jess Dobbs was a well known Altoga community physician.
John Harvey Sandidge bought land three miles north of Altoga when he was 20 ears old. Four years later he married Josephine Emylee Munger, who was born June 20j, 1873 in Mississippi, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Munnger. She had three brothers, Berry, Pomroy, and Jim. Berry was a barber for may years at Van Alstyne. His daughter Mary Munger Knott was the mother of Clifford Knott. Hiram Munger was three-fourth Cherokee Indian and was eligible for free land in Oklahoma but would never claim the land. He served in the Confederate Army and lost the fingers of his left, was captured and held prisoner for two years. In later years he would never listen to a brass band because during a battle the band would play to drown out the screams of dying men and horses.
At the of J. P and Josephine's marriage she was living with her sister and hr husband, the Henry Johnsons of Stony Point Community. There were the parents to three children, George, Mrs. Otis Johnson, and Mrs. Ross Fagala of Princeton.
J. P. and Josephine lived for 60 years on the land he bought as a youth, and both lie in Stony Point Cemetery, a beautiful place on a hill overlooking the land both lived and tended so long. Both were a leader in the religious life of the community, serving where there was need.
