Mrs. W. G. Sams Passes Away at Home in City
Mrs. W. G. Sams passed away last Friday morning at 2:40 o'clock at her home, 1102 South Chestnut Street, following several weeks of critical illness. Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the chapel of the Isaac Crouch Funeral Home with Rev. L A. West of Farmersville conducting the services, assisted by Dr. J. H. Cozad, Pastor of the First Baptist church. Earl W. Rogers lead the music. Interment was in Highland Cemetery in charge of the Crouch Funeral Home.... The deceased was a native of Carlisle County, Ky., where she was born October 9, 1867. She was Miss Ellen Ora Moyers before her marriage, February 28, 1883 to William Garrett Sams. They moved to Collin County in 1901 settling at Anna. In the fall of 1919 they moved to McKinney where they had since resided. The deceased is survived by her husband and the following children. W. M. Sams of Waco; Mrs. Ivy Johnson and Marlin Sams, both of McKinney; Nealy Sams of Taylor; Mrs. Joe Bell of Anna; Mrs. Roland Fitzgerald, Big Springs; Edgar Sams and Mrs. W. M. Spoonemore, both of Dallas. One son and one daughter preceded her in death. Twenty-one grandchildren, three great-grandchildren survive as well as her step-mother, Mrs. Belle Harris of Affton, Mo; a brother, Ike Moyers, Stephenville, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Mary Bruce of Mayfield, Ky.; a half-brother Elbert Moyers, Affton, Mo; a half-sister Mrs. Ruth Bishop of Bardwille, Ky. Funeral Held for W. G. Sams
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock for W. G. Sams, 84, of Wylie, who died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe Bell, of Wylie, Route 2, after an illness of seven weeks. Services were held in the Crouch Funeral chapel, conducted by Rev. L. A. West of Farmersville, with interment following in the Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Sams had been a member of the Baptist Church all his life. He was born in Carlisle county, Kentucky, March 28 1856, coming to Texas when he was 47years of age and had lived near McKinney for twenty years. Surviving are the following children: Willie Same, Waco; Neely Sams, Taylor: Mrs. M. M. Johnson, McKinney Mrs. May Fitzgerald, Big Spring; Martin Sams, Allen; D. E. Sams, Dallas; Mrs Opal Spoonemore, Dallas. He was also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. His parents, his wife, and two children preceded him to the grave.
