Mayor Al Rushhaupt of McKinney
Al Rushhaupt was reared in Victoria, Texas. He and his wife Gerry came to McKinney to make their home from Ft. Worth in 1947. His was a long and consistent record of public service to his community and church. In 1964 he received a standing ovation at the Chamber of Commerce banquet when he was named "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" for his work on the McKinney Development Committee and other projects. He was the organizer of this committee. He has operated the McKinney Office Supply business in McKinney for over 25 years and has expanded it to other towns. The East Texas Chamber of Commerce named his "East Texan of the Month."
There is no area of community life that has not been benefited by his work. Some of the offices he has held are, committeeman for both the Boy Scouts and McKinney Council of Camp Fire Girls, Director of Collin County National Bank, Board of Directors of the Heard Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, Library Board, past president of the Rotary Club, as well as of the United Fund for McKinney, President of the high school PTA organization, and chairman for the McKinney Advisory Committee.
In April of 1973 he was elected Mayor of McKinney and in May was elected to the Executive Board of the North Central Texas Council of Governments. He also served on the Regional Health Planning Council of this organization.
He and his wife are the parents of three children, Judy (Mrs. E. E. Luna), Janet and Richard. Mr. Rushhaupt is a teacher and leader in the United Methodist Church.
