Rev. Alvin O. Rue, ordained minister for the past 50 years will be honored by Trinity Presbytery at a special service in Prosper this Sunday afternoon from 3 to 4 o'clock, followed by a reception from 4 to 5 p.m.
The minister, ordained a half century ago by the United Presbyterian Church, is a resident of McKinney, 1808 Carol Street. He is former pastor of Trinity church here, and since retiring from the active ministry, still supplies pulpits for the Celina church each Sunday and once each month at Melissa.
The Rev. Mr. Alpin Owsley Rue, "who preached his way through high school, college and theological seminary," was accepted into the ministry at ordination services at the Forney Presbyterian Church on Sept. 20, 1916. The sermon was delivered by the late Rev. Glenn Sneed, and the ordination prayer was offered by the Rev. Edgar Hubbard, now pastor at the Cooper Presbyterian Church, who will take part in Sunday's services.
Mr. Rue, born in the Good Hope Community, Denton County, has been under the auspices of the Dallas Presbytery since 1904. he took his high school work at the academy of Trinity University, then located at Waxahachie, and on graduation entered the college from which he received his degree in 1913. he then went on to theological study and was graduated from lane Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1918.
He further prepared himself for the ministry with special work at Union Theological Seminary at Columbia University, New York, where his studies included Greek and Hebrew courses under Dr. James Moffait.
During seminary days, he commuted 120 miles to Ostrander, Ohio, to serve as supply preacher on Sundays. Following graduation, he served his first pastorate at Knoxville, Tenn. He soon returned to Texas to assume the pastorate of the Lewisville church, coming from there to McKinney. Among churches he has served are Ballinger, Hillsboro, Wichita Falls, Fort Davis, Marfa, Ferris and Keller. During the war years he did educational work in CCC camps.
Mr. Rue accepted the call to the McKinney church, then the Central Presbyterian Church, in 1922, and served for three years.
The Rev. and Mrs. Rue had two children and seven grandchildren. Their daughter, Mrs. Erwin Pink of Frisco, Dr. Pink and their four children, and Alvin Rue Jr. and Mrs. Rue and their three young children will all be present for the Sunday service.
