R(o)uth School
Routh School #2
CR 505 and CR 506
Blue Ridge, Texas
In 1915 the Donna school house building was moved to the center of the district formed by the consolidation of the Flowers #113, Red Oak #109, and West (Donna) #150 schools. Miss Mattie Duckworth of Westminster was employed as primary teacher in the school. The new consolidated school district was called Ruth or Routh.
In March of 1921 the Routh school building near Donna was destroyed by fire. It was one of the best rural high school buildings in the county and was practically a new building, having been erected according to the plans and specifications of the State Board of Education. The officers believed that the fire was of incendiary origin and were working on the case.
J. W. Press, farmer living in the Routh school house community, stated that the Routh school closed in May of 1921 with an exhibition. A splendid program had been gotten up for the occasion. There were several good plays. The little folks did some fine speaking. An old fashion picnic dinner on the grounds with an abundance of barbecue was served. There was a large crowd and everybody enjoyed a day of pleasure. The teachers of the Routh school this term were Prof. Mark Moulden, principal, and Miss Moulden and Miss Myrtle Todd assistants.
In 1925 there were 122 students. Miss Opal Press was a teacher in 1936. Ben West was the principal in 1937-39. In 1940 Routh had 89 students. The Routh School was grouped with Blue Ridge Rural High School in 1949.
