Roseland School
Roseland School #67
Celina, Texas
The Roseland community was one of the earliest communities in the northwestern section of Collin County. It was located near the Grayson County line on the east side of present-day Preston Road. The 2020 Celina High School is located in the area that was once called Roseland and the site of the Celina High School is where the original Alla Hubbard School stood.
Before 1901 the McWhirter School District was #67. Dr. Moses Hubbard was from Roseland. The newspaper in 1901 said that his liberality to the Roseland school was known to all readers. He was donating from $600 to $1000 per year to that institution. The history of the Alla Hubbard school district says that it started in 1896 when the McWhirter and Emerson School Districts combined. It was not until 1912 that the newspapers called it the Alla District #67. Before that, the district was called Roseland.
In 1901 Roseland had 4 teachers: T. W. Lanham. Mrs. T. W. Lanham, Miss Lura Biggerstaff, and C. E. Press.
The teachers in 1905 were W. V. Huet, Miss Mary S. Spencer, Miss Lizzie Beck. In 1909 Roseland School had 75 males and 42 females. By 1912, District #67 was called Alla and had 92 students.
