Farmersville, Texas
Rock Quarry School was located two miles northwest of Farmersville. In 1880 the area was said to be thickly settled with good farming lands and enterprising people. The teachers were G. W. Odom in 1880; I. D. Fowler in 1901; Walter Glass in 1902; Dr. W. A. Bell in 1912; and Miss Ora Morrow was teacher in 1913.
In 1890 Rock Quarry School had 57 students; 33 students in 1912; and 48 students in 1925 and 32 in 1940.
J. H. Fisher of Rock Quarry said they had rebuilt their school house which was burned by lightning in the spring of 1905.
In 1907 T. B. Chapman et ux. deeded land to Trustees of Rock Quarry School District No. 29, --- acres, W. B. Williams survey, for school purposes.
In 1918 the County Superintendent of Schools visited Rock Quarry:
“Rock Quarry school is taught by Mrs. H. C. Clark. They have enrolled 33. The children seem to be interested in the work, and I am glad to note that this district is preparing to vote a tax and bring to the children some of the opportunities that an improved school will mean. This house can easily be remodeled to meet all requirements. It should be done before another school. With this building properly equipped and being close enough to Farmersville for the advanced pupils to go there when finishing the grades in the house school will give this community good school advantages. May this good work not be delayed longer. “
The community of Henslee Chapel was located about a half mile to the northeast. The children from that community attended the Rock Quarry School. Occasionally there is a reference to the Henslee Chapel School.
