The Richards community was about 4 miles east of Blue Ridge. It was named for the Richards family that lived in the area. The arch entrance for the Old Richards Cemetery says 1866. In the newspapers the community is sometimes called Tib. E. S. Southard was the teacher in 1880. The area had timber and prairie.
A letter in the March 7, 1889 newspaper said,
“I am a little girl six years old. I am going to school at the Richard’s school house. I am studying spelling and reading. When I come home at night, I help mama feed the chickens and bring in the wood.

The school had 58 students in 1890. The teacher in 1901 was G. C. Corry. There was a debating society organized at Richards School house in March of 1902 with S. Walkup, chairman and W. W. Maddox, secretary and treasurer. It met every Friday night. Tib, Texas
Miss Effie Reed was teaching school at Richards School House in December 1903. In 1905 the teacher was Miss Irma Clifton. Miss Viola Duckworth was the teacher in 1908. The school had 50 students in 1912. The Richards School district consolidated with the Frognot (Dixon) School in 1913.
