Denison - Services for Edgar Lee Rice, 75-year-old service station owner-operator of Denison who died Saturday at Texoma Medical Center, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Bratcher Chapel.
The Rev. Conley Cook and the Rev. James Sulton will officiate and burial will be in Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Rice was born in Clarksville, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rice and married Mollie Parker Sept. 1, 1944 at Durant, Okla.
He was a Civil Service employee and owned and operated a service station in Denison.
He was a member of Trace Temple Baptist Church, served with the U. S. army in World War II and was a life member of the Disabled American Veteran.
Survivors are his wife of Denison; brother James Rice of Denison; and sister Kathleen Duke of Sherman.
Pallbearers will be Robert Kerzee, Kendall Herzee, Clancy Rice, James Rice Jr., Eddy Hendrix and Jerry Hodge.

William Rice came to Collin County, Texas in 1843 from Benton County, Arkansas, around Fayetteville. Rice came with the Throckmortons and built a cabin at Buckner, the first county seat of Collin County. It seems that the Rice Family moved from Virginia to Tennessee where he married Abigail, a half Cherokee Indian. Abbey, as she was called, was born December 6, 1807 in South Carolina (Indian Territory as some family records called it.) She died November 18, 1889 and is buried in the Clear lake Cemetery.
William came to Collin County as a Peter's Colony settler and received 640 acres of land. He settled northwest of McKinney and patented his land on January 19, 1855. He was a farmer and served as a private in the Mexican War, enlisting in Captain Andrew Stapp's Company, Mounted Volunteers (1846). His son, Charles P. Rice, and his nephew, Paschal H. Rice, also enlisted from Collin County.
William Rice bought four lots in the town of McKinney June 27, 1850 and sold them in 1852. He later moved to the Hardin T. Chenoweth survey about three miles northeast of McKinney. The Rice family had 10 children, Charles P. Rice (1827), and died 1847, his father received payment for his service in the Mexican War. The second child was Joseph P. Rice (1830-1844). He was scalped by the Indians at the same time the Muncey-Jameson massacre on Rowlette Creek. He was buried in a small cemetery on Wilson Creek, west of McKinney, no longer exists. The third child was John L. who was born in Tennessee in 1832 and died around 1860, the fourth child was Margaret (1834 - 1860.)
Alexander Rice (1837) was born in Arkansas and married Mary Ann Crabtree, who was born in Missouri (1839). To them were born eight children. Other children were E. Rice, a female born 1839; Julia Ann, born in Arkansas in 1841; William, born 1843 in Arkansas, and died at the hand of robbers in New Mexico. Martha Ellen Rice was born May 12, 1846 near McKinney. On December 14, 1865 she was married to Peyton Russell Jordon (born July 8, 1839 in Georgia) and became the parents of five children.
The tenth child was Caroline Wilmine Josephine Peruse Rice (February 22, 1848 - September 22, 1922). She first married Thomas Jefferson Davis in 1870 (divorced), then married Phillip James Soden (July 6, 1841). She and her second husband are buried at Clear Lake Cemetery.
Martha E. Rice and Peyton R. Jordon were the parents of the following children: Julia Ann who married Tinah Haywood Poland, May Rella who married John Calvin Jones and settled at Nevada, William Ludwell married Monte Swope and settled at Josephine, Dudley Everett married Cornelia Godrey.
Carolina Rice and Jefferson Davis had two daughters: Julia Ann who married William Greenbury Robbirds and Alta Boyd who married Roy Gann.
Sallie Ellen Davis (1875-1945) married Walter Price Addington, the son of John Wesley Addington and Martha Jane Price. To this union were born nine children: Faye Hodges and Grace Poor, both of McKinney; Ollie of Wylie; Opal A. Long of McKinney; Elsie Smith of Richardson; Delia Bull of San Clemente, California (mother of George Bull, the author of this story); Elmo of Brooklyn, New York; Vince of Dallas; and Oleta Arnsen of Thermal, California.
Carolina Rice Davis and Phillip Soden had four children: Owen P, who died young; Thomas Phillip who married Ida Mae Preston, and they had one daughter, Hester Phennel of Clear Lake.
Katie Elvira Soden married Luther Hays Harris and had nine children; Lillie Springer of Pomona, California; Tennie Seinfield of Claremont, California; Eva harries of Rockwall; Soden Harries of Garland; Daisy Prince of Royse City; Robert Pershing Soden married Ruth Woods of Grand Prairie; Arsie Harris of Garland; and Maxwell of New Boston Texas.
Martha Soden married Henry Lee Smith and they had six children, Faye Simmons, Pearl Mounger of McKinney, Luther Smith of Clear Lake, Thomas L. Smith of Wylie, Anna Mae Smith of Tracey, California, and Cora Bess McCoy of Mesquite.
Pascal and Martha M. Rice had thee children: George (1851); Johnny (1853); Mary Esther (1855); who married to John William McGraw who was born in 1848 in Ireland; Dorothy A. (1857) married Joseph Harding, the son of America Harding.
Polly Rice (1859-1930) married to Lo Newby.
Ellen Rice (1861-1904) married Phillip Corbitt, both buried at St. Paul. Jack Rice (1863, and Mattie Rice (1874)

(`8798-1956) married Ab Boyer and settled at Culleoka, Mary (1880) William Thomas (1876 -1940) married Agnes Nesbitt, Joseph P. (1885 - 1951) married Etta Strickland, James Patrick (1888-1963) was married twice, first to Pearl Paris then to Rosa Peters, George Lawrence (1890-1952) married Katie Ann Akin, Hamilton David (Jack) married Nannie Bell Highsaw, Ernest Everett (Pete) born 1894 and died 1972, married Vera McDaniel. Most of these children settled in Collin County.
Dorothy Rice and Joe Harding had the following children: J. Willie, Rose Marie who married Pitt Kellog Babcock, Claude J. Peter J. who was killed in the battle at Argone Forest, France in World War I, Susie Belle married Willie Townsend.
Ellen Rice married Phil Corbett, son of William and Elizabeth Corbitt, early settlers of the St. Paul community near Wylie, and they were the parents of Mattie who married William F. Parr, May Ellen married John P. McEntee, William, Margaret who married first Francis Brennan, and second John McGarth.
Monnica (1885-1970) married Joseph H. Parr, Annie R. (1887-1944) married Edward Miller, Joseph P. (1888-1940) married Lillie Boyer, Robert Emmett (1890 - 1968) married Minnie Dodd.
Dorothy Elizabeth (1892 - 1943) married Charlie Cotter, Elsie married George M. Parr and settled at Wylie, Dennis Phillip, Katherine Delia married Virgil Heard, and Frederick Corbitt (1901-1906).
