The Passing Away of Mrs. Rattan
Aged Lady Died at Old Home Near Melissa
In Collin County Fifty Years
Mrs. Rebecca Rattan, Wife of late Tom Rattan Died Tuesday
Night at 9 O'clock
Mrs. Rebecca Rattan, aged 80 years, wife of the late Tom Rattan, died at the old home near Coffman, about three miles northwest of Melissa, Tuesday night at 9 o'clock. Deceased had lived in Collin county and in the vicinity of Anna and Melissa for about 60 years. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Coffman, pioneer citizens of Collin. She was a sister to J. H. Coffman of Melissa, George Coffman of the Coffman community, Mrs. W. P. Slaughter of Anna and Mrs. Reagle of Wagner, Oklahoma. Mrs. Rattan leaves four children -- three daughters and one son -- to mourn her death, as follows: Mrs. Mollie Jones of Shamrock, Mrs. Annie Moore of Fort Worth, Mrs. John Mallow of Melissa and J. D. Rattan of Anna.
Since the death of Mrs. Rattan's husband, several years ago, her grandson, Dow Rattan, and wife have been living at the old home place, and caring for their grandmother.
Deceased was a member of the Methodist church and at all times lived a pure Christian life. Having lived here the greater part of her life, had witnessed many changes in Collin County. She had seen the county grow from a semi wilderness to one of the most prosperous counties in the State. She gave to the county the four above mentioned children, who are among the county's highest type of Christian citizenship. Mrs. Rattan leaves a large number of relatives and friends who will mourn her death. The interment was made Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Melissa, the funeral service being conducted by the pastor of the Anna and Melissa Methodist churches.
