"Daddy" Rains Passes Away
Had Reached the Ripe Old Age of 96 at Death End Came in Oklahoma Home Moved Away from McKinney Two Years Ago -- Resided Here for Forty Years. George (Daddy) Rains, for many years a citizen of this county, died at 4:30 o'clock, Tuesday evening Nov. 12, at the home of his son, George Rains, Jr. at Ft. Townsend, Oklahoma. At his death he had attained the ripe old age of 96 years, 3 months and 7 days. he was a man of remarkably strong vigor and robust health -- in fact his demise was not due to any disease, but to infirmity of old age. Until the last his mind remained clear and death came upon him as peacefully as sleep to the pillow of a babe. The deceased was a native of the state of Indiana. After attaining manhood, he went to Iowas, thence to Missouri and coming on to Texas about 40 years ago. he settled at McKinney upon first coming to the state which continued to be his home ever since until two years ago, when he moved to Oklahoma with his son George. He was a farmer -- industrious, thrifty and honest and accumulated some property. He was for many hears a member of the Christian church and had the respect of an extensive acquaintance. he was first married to Miss Eliza Lynch, who died about 35 years ago, and is buried at Forest Grove in this county. Hes second marriage was to Mrs. Rachel Kindle, who is also deceased, and buried in Pecan Grove cemetery at McKinney. The surviving children are: John, George, Ike and Joe Rains, all of Oklahoma; Tom Rains, of Princeton, Jim Rains of Viney Grove; Mrs. Sam Lane of Grand Saline, Texas, and Mrs. Nancy Cook of Okeen, Oklahoma. All the children were at the bedside of their father when he passed away except one son, John, and the two daughters. The burial took place at Ft. Townsend Wednesday afternoon conducted by the pastor of the Christian church of that place. W. B. Kindle, the McKinney grocery merchant, is a step-son of the deceased. The many friends of "Daddy" Rains in this county will regret to hear of his demise and will genuinely sympathize with the sorrowing children in their time of bereavement.
