Pratt
In Loving Memory of our friend and partner Jack Pratt
Last week, we lost a dear friend. After a four month battle with various illnesses, Jack Pratt passed away in Presbyterian Hospital on Thursday July 11. Up until the time of his illness, Jack was working at North Side Pharmacy where he had been practicing his profession for 25 years. Prior to his time at North Side, he spent 17 years at McKinney Drug Store. He was a favorite to many of the customers who enjoyed his laughter and cheerful exuberance.
In addition to his friends at the pharmacy, Jack also had countless friends from the participation in the Lions Club and local square dancing clubs. He had over 28 years of perfect attendance with the Lions club and served the McKinney club as "permanent" song leader after holding every other office the organization offered. As a square dancer, Jack and Margie, his beloved wife of 47 years, were known to spend as many a 4 nights a week dancing with the area clubs until the wee hours of the morning.
Another interest Jack held was scouting. After working through the ranks of the Boy Scouts, Jack received the coveted Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor offered in Scouting. He helped many young men in the quest for merit badges and Eagle Scout Awards as a counselor and guide. In addition Jack devoted himself to working for the Mitchell Clinic Research Center, helping to oversee the use of experimental medications.
Jack Pratt will be greatly missed, not only by his family, co-workers and friends, but by the community. He will be remembered for his friendly smile, corny jokes and sayings, for drinking an endless supply of Coca-Cola - from the small bottles only for sleeping until noon on his day off, for cooking toasted crackers and eggs, for singing the same songs week after week at Lions, for dressing in a red vest and Santa hat at Christmas and for countless other details that made Jack a unique and wonderful person. We are all a little richer for having known Jack Pratt. July 18, 1991
