The community of Prairie Grove, located about six miles south of Farmersville and 4 miles north of FM 6 in Nevada, was said to be in the center of one of the thriftiest communities in Collin County. The Prairie Grove Cemetery and church were located about a mile east of the school site. CR 566 was a dividing line between the Farmerville and Community school districts.
Prairie Grove School was Collin County School District #98. J. T. Bell was the teacher in 1880. In 1888 there were 90 students enrolled and the school was under the management of Prof. McBride and Miss Ludy Gotcher.
D. D. Kemper was the teacher and Miss Marie Howard was the assistant in 1890. The school had 88 students in 1890 and over one hundred by 1892
On December 14,1889 the Prairie Grove Farmers’ Alliance met at the Prairie Grove School house to appoint a committee, which would meet the delegates from sister Alliances on Tuesday before the 3d Wednesday in January, 1890 at the Copeville, Farmersville or Nevada depots, and convey them by car or other means to the Prairie Grove School house where the County Alliance would be in session. The delegates would be given good places to stay. Another County Alliance meeting was held at the school house in 1892.
Prairie Grove Items 1892. The ‘base ball’ boys, Prairie Grove, Lone Star, last Saturday evening played a successful game with a nameless club, composed of three old clubs, in which our boys scored 21 to 14.
J. E. Jackson was the teacher in 1901. Miss Mattie Lee Childress teacher in 1905. There were 74 students in 1912 and 75 in 1925. There were 32 students in 1940.
Miss Abbie Lucille Cole was a teacher in the Prairie Grove school in 1939. Edwina Watkins was the teacher in 1944 and Mrs. Bertha Caldwell in 1945. The school closed after 1945 with the students going to Farmersville and Community schools.
There are inconsistent references to an Aleo School District #156. It would have been located east of Prairie Grove School in the direction of Josephine. It was included on a list of schools in 1900 with 28 students. In 1901 Miss Essie Dorton was the teacher. It was not listed in 1905. The Aleo District consolidated with Prairie Grove on August 29, 1907.
