Patterson
William and Elizabeth Ann Paterson were Peter's Colonists, coming to settle in Collin County between 1845 and 1848. William was born in North Carolina in 1805 but was living in Morgan County, Illinois when they decid4d to come to Texas. To this marriage the following children were born, Elizabeth Ann (1836) married William C. Hall, H. G., a son was born in 1838, W. J., a daughter was born in 1842. William C. (Cull) was born in 1844, and Mary Ann (1846) married John A. Gibson.
Andrew Jackson was born June 22, 1849 in Collin County to William and Elizabeth Ann Patterson. His mother died soon after his birth and is buried in Collin County. Andrew was a wheelwright and farmer, and was born in McKinney.
The Patterson land grant was from Fannin County and was issued by Word on April 3, 1850, the grant being 640 acres, bounded on the west by John M. Mitchell's survey and James Anderson's survey on the North. It had been surveyed by the Colony contractors but could not be designated because there was no map or field notes in the possessions of the commissioners at the time.
William Patterson remarried on April 27, 1855 to Sarah K. Tenney, by whom he had five children. They were Elinor (January 1, 1856), John (1860), Jordon (1862), Jane (1864), and William (1866).
In 1856 William Patterson sold his land to Henry Maxwell and he and his family moved to Parker County, where they took up another land grant about 10 miles from Weatherford. By 1870 Sarah had died and William and his son, Andrew J. and daughter, Mary Ann and his five younger children moved home to Collin County. In the fall of 1870 they moved to Bell County where William died.
Both William C. Hall and his father-in-law, William Patterson served with the Confederate forces. William Hall was with Martin's Regiment under Capt. Leonidas M. Martin's 5th regiment, Partisan Rangers. This later became Company K, Martin's Reg. of Texas Cavalry, 10 Btn. of the Texas Cavalry. He was mustered in at McKinney on July 5, 1862 for three years. (He was listed as having a horse valued at $175.00 and equipment valued at $25.)
William C. Patterson, age 19 years, volunteered at McKinney July 5, 1862, also with Captain Leonidas Martin's Regiment of the Texas Cavalry and served until February 17, 1865. On May 22, 1865 he joined the Union Army.
