The Henry Ottenhausen Family
Henry Ottenahausen was born in Germany in Hannover, September 15, 1839. In 1844 he came with his family to America. He was the son of William Ottenhausen and Christina Ousenkoff Ottenhausen. The family became American citizens September 21, 1855 by an oath of Julius Eggeling and John Sohnauty attesting to the fact that they had resided within the United States for five years.
Henry's father first settled in San Antonio, Texas then moved to Sequin and later to San Marcos. The father died there and is buried on the farm he owned, now known as the Knypsil Place. Henry's mother died March 7, 1904 in McKinney and is buried in the McGarrah Cemetery. As a child Henry played on the old stone walls of the Alamo while the family lived nearby. In 1858 he joined the Texas Rangers, first with Burleson then with Rip Ford. During the Civil War he served in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas under Capt. John S. Ford's Co. of volunteers. He came to Collin County to live in 1866 and married Harriett McGarrah. To this union seven children were born: Christina, George W., Henry Elmer, Mattie, Ida Mae, Inez and James R. George and Mattie died in their youth. Henry and James lived in Batesville, Texas and Christina lived with her parents until their death. Ida Mae married Doctor Wootson Hill, son of Frances (Tuck) Hill and Mary Quintillia Graves Hill, on March 15, 1898. Inez married Claude Paysinger in 1910.
The children of Inez and Claude Paysinger born in McKinney were William Henry, Annie Harriett, Louise Ludie, and Jimmie Inez. The children of Ida Mae and Doctor W. Hill were Marian Ardelle (Truett), Maybelle (Hilliard), and Ralph Henry Hill. George lies in the McGarrah Cemetery.
