CR 168
Celina, Texas
The Noble School was the original Collin County District #86. The John Noble homestead was located about 1 ½ miles south of the community of Cottage Hill near present-day CR 168. The Noble Cemetery is in that location.
Parson John S. Noble was a Methodist Episcopal minister. He started and preached at the Methodist Church of Celina. He was a missionary to the Indians in Oklahoma. He started the Cottage Hill Methodist Church in 1881 and preached at the revivals at the Honey Creek Campgrounds a few miles northeast along Honey Creek at Pafford's Bridge.
Rev. Noble organized the Union Methodist Church in Celina and preached there in 1885. He also preached at the Liberty Methodist Church in the Roland community, located along the Weston Road and CR 203 and at First Methodist Church of McKinney. He helped organize the Sway Back Methodist Church (Walnut Grove). “Uncle John” Mallone, an early Celina-area resident, said the first school he attended was taught by John Noble.
Cottage Hill School #70 and Noble School #86 were often listed together in the early county newspapers. Noble School was not included on the list of Collin County Schools in 1800. Rev. Noble died in 1886. In 1890 the combined Cottage Hill #70 and Noble #86 were listed as having 75 students. In 1892 they had 63 students. By 1901 Cottage Hill was listed separately and District #86 was listed as the Bush School.
