McCarty Normal School was a private school built in the 1880s in Nickleville. It was owned and operated by Frank L. McCarty.
By the fall of 1886 the three-story school building was completed in Nickleville at the location of present-day Stone and Ballard streets in Wylie.
McCarty School was an institution of higher learning. It boarded and roomed male students of high school and college levels from all over the county.
Sometimes the school had as many as 350 male students at one time. They were taught the fundamentals of learning.
W. W. Shepherd was head master and teacher.
When the Nickleville School started about 1890, the McCarty Normal School closed. Nickleville School eventually became part of the Wylie District.
