Prof. I. A. Looney and his sister Isola conducted a school in McKinney from 1875 to 1885. In 1885 they moved from McKinney to Farmersville and, with Prince A. Dowlen, opened the Looney-Dowlen Male and Female Academy there.
This school was in operation for about ten years until the first Farmersville public school was built in 1895.
