FM 1378 north of Sloan Creek
Lucas, Texas
Lick Springs was located along Sloan Creek. It was so named because the animals would lick large holes in the creek bank for the salt deposit.
Lick Springs school existed from 1872 until 1917 when it joined with Forest Grove School to form Lovejoy School. It was named for the deer and buffalo who licked large holes in the banks of Sloan Creek for the salt. It was described as a log house about 14 ft. square with no windows. There were two terms during the summer and no school during the winter because there was no way to have a fire. Ms. Donnie Watson and D.B. Fisher attended school here as child. Agnes McKinney was the teacher in 1905.
