The Liberty community was located about 4 miles north of Farmersville. The school, church and cemetery were named Liberty until the school consolidated with the Pleasant Valley school in 1912 to form the New Liberty School District. At that time the school and cemetery became known as Old Liberty.
The earliest marked grave in the Liberty Cemetery is dated 1872. In 1880 the teacher at Liberty School was Miss Bettie Haston. The school had 53 students in 1890 and 24 male and 17 female students totaling 41 in 1909. Prof. J. H. Jackson began his teaching at Liberty Hill School.
E. C. Forbes was the teacher at Liberty School 1898 and 1901. Miss Mattylee Childress was the teacher in 1903 and J. H. Goforth was the teacher in 1905.
In 1912 the Liberty School consolidated with the Pleasant Valley School to form the New Liberty School district, a two-teacher school that was the first and only consolidated district in the county at that time.
