After an illness of five weeks, John Thomas Smith, 71 years of age, a native of Collin County, who spent practically his entire life in this community, died at his home, 1108 Pine Street, McKinney. at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. He was well known and highly esteemed in and around McKinney.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Woodie Smith and four children., Mrs. Ola Mae Wheless and J. T. Smith Jr. of Dallas; R. A. Smith and W. W. Smith of McKinney. His parents Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and three sisters preceded him to the grave. Two brothers and three sisters survive. They are Howell Smith and Watt Smith of Murphy; Mrs. Lizzie Salmon, Allen; Mrs. Maggie Donaldson, Murphy; and Mrs. Tinnie Campbell, Hugo, Okla. The deceased also leaves six grandchildren, Carl E. Wheless, Helen Louise; Wanda Faye Smith; James Wesley Smith; Thomas Wayne Smith and Carrie Oleto Smith.
The funeral took place Thursday afternoon with services at the Murphy Baptist Church. Interment was made in the Murphy Cemetery. The Harris Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. John Thomas was a minister.
