In 1891 Helms School had 43 students. Mrs. Data Smith was the teacher in 1901. In 1909 Helms had 17 males and 11 females.
In 1918 the Superintendent of Schools said,
“Helms school has a small district. The enrollment was 35. Last year this district voted a twenty-five-cent tax and now have an order for twenty-five cents additional. The State has given this school sufficient aid to give them a six months school for this year. I am glad to see this progressive spirit in the school. Miss Eunice King is their teacher. The trustees have improved this house some but it is still needing more improvement.”
The name of the school is spelled with and without an “s” on the end: Helm or Helms. The area where the school was located was undeveloped in 2018. There is no road in that area. The location comes from a 1930 Soil Conservation Map.
