The Haggard School was also known as the Haggard, Huffman, Heustis (sometimes spelled Hustis) School, the Three H School or the 3H Academy. It was established in 1858 on the C. S. Haggard homestead west of Plano on the west side of White Rock Creek.
The private school was a frame house with split logs for seats and a puncheon floor which had many cracks. Miss Jennie Collier was the first teacher who taught children from the Haggard, Huffman, and Houston families. Teachers in 1880 were Lizzie Latimer, Sue Tolbert, and Misses McChilly and Bettie Huffman. The school closed in 1882 when the Plano Institute began.
