Grassy Lake is a natural body of water and has been a pleasure resort and fishing place for McKinney people and citizens of surrounding county for more than 40 years.... These are three fine springs on the site.to secure a suitable levee about 2500 feet will have to be built on the south side, and 4400 feet on the west side, making a total of 6900 feet of dam... This estimate is for a levee two feet above high-water mark in East Fork Creek.” Democrat, August 20, 1903
The deed to Grassy Lake, the site purchased by the McKinney Hunting and Fishing club for the big lake, was recorded in September of 1903.
