Thomas Dixon was son of Captain Dixon, who had been a teacher at Frognot. Frognot is located east of Blue Ridge and the school district was called Dixon School District #125.
In 1861 during the Civil War, Thomas Dixon taught in the Dixon School in the Masonic Temple on West Virginia Street in McKinney. At some point the school moved to the northwest corner of Louisiana and Church Streets. First Baptist Church was later built on the same lot and was adjacent to the Fletcher B. Pope home.
