SH 5 at the Dallas County line

The Dallas County Line School was located where SH 5 enters Collin County. Today that is Plano Road in Dallas County and Ave. K in Collin County. The school is sometimes called the Routh School. Jacob Routh owned the land on the west side of the road in that area. This was always small district.
In 1880 the teacher was S. H. Tucker. There were 48 students in 1890 and 39 in 1891. J. B. Hugeley was the teacher in 1901. There were 16 males and 13 females for a total of 29 students in 1909.
The County Superintendent W. S. Smith gave a review of the school in 1918. “The Dallas County Line No. 45 is a small district. The house, while the house can be made warm enough, it is poorly arranged and lacking in equipment. They have a six months school and can by voting the limit of tax have seven months and be able to make the house meet the state requirements. They have enrolled 31 and have Miss Kate Salmon as teacher.”
