8 miles west of Plano, west side of White Rock Creek
Plano, Texas
The Barksdale school was located 8 miles west of Plano on the west side of White Rock Creek. Barksdale School was started in 1860. Mr. Matthews was the teacher in 1861. The building was later moved to a location on Preston Road, two miles northwest. In 1890 there were 44 in attendance. Teachers were Prof. Masters in 1871; Miss Lillie Phillips in 1901; and Miss Lizzie Latimer, Miss McChelly, and Miss Kate Huffman. In 1905 the teacher was Miss Willie Stiff.
The Collin County School Review in 1918 stated: “Barksdale district has a good house fairly arranged. The only objection is that it is too large for one room and not large enough for two. They do not have the limit on taxation but have sufficient money to meet requirements because of the largeness of the district. The enrollment is 52. Miss Elen Akin and Mrs. Clara Collinsworth are their teachers. This school has a good library and they are doing some good work. This school is doing some Red Cross work.”
Barksdale School had 63 students in 1925. It was in existence until 1931. The school was also called Spring Creek.
There was also a Barksdale Colored School #9 in 1918.

A School review by the Collin County Superintendent in 1918 stated: "The house for the colored school of Barksdale is too small. They have an enrollment of over fifty and will have a six months school. The house should be enlarged and properly equipped. J. E. Tarpley is their teacher and has a good attendance."
