This area was also known as Free Grass. Arnold Creek runs northeast/southwest through the northeastern section of the county and it is part of the Trinity River flood control water shed. A new bridge was constructed over Arnold Creek in 1897. The previous bridge had been washed out in a flood. The Parkhill Prairie Park is east of the community on CR 668.
The Arnold School is included on lists of Collin County School in 1887. In 1890 the student body was 48. In 1912 and 1925 it was 66.
The teacher in 1901 was R. E. Beasley. In 1905 Miss Laura Redd was the teacher. Prof. John E. Coffman was the teacher in 1920 and 1921.
The school house was used as a meeting hall for the area. Because of its location, Arnold was included in Hunt County newspapers.
